The coping skills from your dysfunctional childhood that helped you survive that time in your life, may not be the coping skills you need to help you thrive in your current life situation.
Our brains are creatures of habits, so unless we become aware of our outdated coping skills, we are repeating what we know is not working for us. Unfortunately these old patterns don't really work that well to deal with what is happening today.
When we begin our healing, we become aware that our old coping skills might be actually getting in the way of our healing. Working on these 5 coping skills will be a game changer in our lives. Here they are:
We must be skilled at expressing our needs.
We must know how to express our disappointment with others in an effective way.
We must become skilled at recognizing with clarity what is not working, so that we can make a change.
We must master the skills to receive and give proper apologies.
We must become comfortable feeling uncomfortable with unpleasant feelings.
These 5 skills are a game changer in your life! Working on them alone will promote you to a happier, healthier life. When we begin to educate ourselves and realize that we might have been coping with outdated coping skills, we have the opportunity to make a change. These changes will have a tremendous effect on how we relate to others and how they relate to us. We will attract quality friends and influence people in a healthy way. We become powerful!
