Compassion and Empathy Without Boundaries Can be Hurtful

December 16, 20232 min read

Did you know that empathy and compassion can be powerful for connection and healing? They can also get in the way of us keeping boundaries and releasing what needs to go. Knowing where the line is can literally be the difference between healing and suffering.

When the same quality that can connect us can be the same thing that keeps us stuck in unhealthy dynamics, life becomes foggy and confusing.

It is confusing because having compassion and empathy is how we connect authentically. The lines become blurred when empathy and compassion are without boundaries and consequences. When we often find ourselves permitting behavior and patterns that do not work for our growth, we find ourselves in a foggy and confused state. We find ourselves excusing bad behaviors or rationalizing far too much.

Growth is when we can discern what is hurting us versus what is pushing us into a better place. Letting go of what is not working is part of our process of healing. When we make a deliberate decision to honor what is acceptable for us, while having compassion and empathy for the other person and ourselves, we are operating in a self-loving way. Here is an example of what having compassion and empathy looks like while being true to you and standing firm with your boundaries.

“I understand why you’re struggling and are having trouble showing up for this relationship in (x,y,z), ways, but what you’re doing feels dishonorable to me. I don’t want to be in this relationship anymore in this way”.

I've crafted a set of four-phase programs designed to facilitate a profound transformation from within, giving you the solid foundation you deserve. I will leave you with this question to ponder. What areas are you letting compassion and empathy take over?

Sincerely,
Vania

STRAIGHT FROM MY HAPPY CLIENT

Vania provided me with some strategies and tools to help me with everyday life. I felt comfortable talking with Vania. She is 'soothing' and makes me feel calm.

Before working with Vania, I was concerned that I might not fully understand what coaching means, and wasn't sure if this would work for me. Throughout our meetings, I discovered that it was quite interesting to find answers, with Vania's support. I found that conversations flow easily even when discussing delicate subjects that are hard to talk about it.

If you are thinking about hiring Vania, go for it! She is trustworthy and supportive. Loved every minute!
