As I navigate through the intricate journey of healing, I've stumbled upon a profound understanding—an understanding that revolves around the captivating power of where our attention lies.
Our brains are truly magnificent; they possess an astounding ability to focus on what we ask them to. It's a bit like when my husband bought a new car and suddenly, I began to notice that exact car model and color everywhere I went. What was once unnoticed became omnipresent simply because it was now in my realm of attention.
But when we find ourselves in the throes of trauma, operating from a dysregulated nervous system, it's a different story. In these moments, our amygdala takes the reins, plunging us into survival mode. We react instinctively—fighting, fleeing, freezing, or even fawning. And while our brains are marvelously accurate in many ways, they're not always precise. This concept became clear to me as I discussed in a previous blog, "Navigating Truth: The Dance of Brain Accuracy and the Precision of Intuition." I discovered that while our brains may seek evidence to protect us, our intuition, on the other hand, provides a more precise guide.
Embarking on the path of healing requires a crucial step: acknowledging and understanding the patterns that attract relationships impacting our nervous system. It's about taking responsibility, recognizing these patterns, and embracing healthier relationship dynamics.
As I've delved deeper into this journey and transitioned towards these healthier patterns, I've observed something fascinating—my brain began identifying people and situations that aligned with these newfound healthy patterns. It's almost like buying that specific car—suddenly, my brain became adept at discerning between behaviors signaling red flags and those representing green flags.
The key, I've found, lies in shifting our focus to positive interactions, steering away from the immediate need to shield ourselves. Instead, relying on the precise intuition delivered through body sensations to discern the necessity of activating the amygdala.
This realization marks a crucial step in my healing journey, one that underlines the incredible potential inherent in the direction of our attention. Through this understanding, I aim to share the transformative impact of attention in healing, urging others to embrace the power of precise intuition and positive interactions as a guide towards emotional well-being.
